Come stay with us in the Cabin in Maine

The Cabin in Maine is a friendly Hostel providing lodging and dining for those seeking an outdoor experience.  We are set up like any AYH or HI place and open year-round.  People come from all over the world to use The Cabin as their headquarters for outdoor activities.  We will arrange shuttle service from train, bus and plane connections. 

 Accommodations:  You stay in the lower floor of the three story log home.  Your area has a modern, complete kitchen, full bath room, laundry area, 8-bed bunk room, one private room, social area includes CATV, VCR, phone and e-mail.   All linens and blankets, extra Cabin clothes and shoes are included.  Fee; $14.00 per person per day tax included.

Meals, served family style.  Fees;  Breakfast $5.50 and dinner $7.50 tax included.

 Activities: Downhill skiing at Sunday River, Mt. Abram, Saddleback and Black Mt.   Cross-country skiing facilities are nearby. Snowshoe out the front door.  Canoe on nearby rivers, ponds and lakes.  Fish for native and stocked trout.  Rockhounds take day trips to mines and quarries. They can visit gem and mineral shops and the local museums.  Bicyclists enjoy our quiet country roads and backcountry logging roads.  The nearby mountains provide opportunities for rock climbers.  Backpackers hike into mountain lean-tos.  Our daily shuttle service to four trail heads, on the Appalachian Trail, lets thru hikes “go light” and come home each night for good food- all they can eat.

Services: For Appalachian Trail hiking in Maine; planning, food and mail forwarding, shuttles, maps, knowledge of the whole trail in Maine including road crossing, places to stay, people to see, how to prepare for the “one hundred mile wilderness”and help spot your car.   Daily shuttle service to Appalachian Trail trail heads at Grafton Notch, the north end of the Mahoosuc Range, East “B” Hill Road, South Arm, and RT. 17.  Help with reservations at AMC Huts and Lodges and Baxter State Park.  Assist AT  “thru hikers” in our area, and provide a place for friends and / or spouses to be together for a few days.   Help section hikers spot their vehicle where they plan to finish.  Make available recreational equipment as needed.

Location:  We are located ten miles north of US Hwy 2 between Bethel and Rumford in East Andover-Andover, an historic pioneer village in the foothills of Western Maine. The White Mountains are just minutes away.  Nearby are rivers, lakes, The Appalachian Trail, ski slopes, gem quarries, maple sugar sites, state designated bicycle route and a covered bridge.
